Disconnected the static line at the pitot/static assembly. Rolled up a piece of laytex tubing and connected it to the static line going to the instruments. Unrolled some of the tubing to draw a slight vacuum on the system. The VSI responded as expected. The altimeter showed an increase in altitude. The airspeed indicator showed about 160mph. The A/S response was expected since drawing a vacuum on the staitc side of the A/S indicator in the same as putting pressure on the pitot side.
I held the tube shut for several minutes and the VSI bled off as expected and the airspeed and altimeter held steady, indicating there are no leaks in the static system.
Reconnected the static line to the pitot/static assembly.
